RYAN’S REVIEW
Disclaimer: This is not the beginning of the series, The Dresden Files, and for that reason may contain spoilers for the series.
Summary:
Harry’s dead. But even in death, he can’t seem to find peace. His spirit self maintains power and influence, and he’s still wise-cracking and fearless, even in the face of other, potentially dangerous spirits. In Harry’s absence, Chicago falls to pieces, and when Harry returns from the land of the dead, he’s faced with a wintry month of May and a city about to be overrun by an ancient evil. Harry’s quest involves aiding the city while hunting down his killer, someone whose identity is clouded by an erased memory. Harry must relive his past to reveal the shocking truth.
Comments:
Ryan is happy to have Harry back. He insists, “Harry Dresden is John McClane meets Gandalf” and nothing could better articulate Harry’s character in this latest installment of The Dresden Files. As a longtime Files fan, he appreciates the reunion with Mortimer, a character once portrayed as a coward, who returns to redeem himself (and does so, successfully, in the eyes of Harry and the reader.) Butcher’s style never takes a break; loyal fans will not be disappointed in Ghost Story. The pace is significantly slower than its predecessor, Changes, but with it begins an exciting new story arc.
Does Ryan recommend this book?
Big time.
