Summary:
The Daily Coyote phenomenon began with a few photos of Charlie, an orphaned coyote pup in Wyoming, then escalated to a blog and developed into a memoir that chronicles Charlie’s first year. Stockton does more than capture the beautiful animal on camera; she grows with Charlie and describes the lessons she learns in the process, both the challenges and the rewards. Stockton welcomes you into her life to witness the growing pup and the challenges of survival in the wilds of Wyoming. It’s all laid out for you; even her ever-developing relationship with her boyfriend, Mike, is included as part of her personal journey (well, Mike’s the one who brought her Charlie, after all.) It’s a story of self-improvement and openness, of dedication and love, of honesty and wildness.
Comments:
A very lovely memoir. It was an easy, quick read and really made me feel like I was part of Ten Sleep, Wyoming (the captivating photos throughout the book helped.) Stockton told her story openly, carefully including the bad and the good equally. For example, there are times to dislike Mike as a coyote hunter and times to appreciate his efforts just the same. Most importantly, Stockton manages to convey all the beautiful moments between her and the coyote that enlightened her.
The Point:
Definitely a must-read for any animal lover.
